The TPO conducts traffic counts at over 300 locations in Knox and Blount Counties. These annual counts supplement those collected by the Tennessee Department of Transportation at several thousand other locations across the 10-county region.
About the Counts
The traffic count data are given in the standard “Average Daily Traffic” format, which represents the volume of traffic, in both directions, at a particular location on an average day during that particular year. The average traffic is computed by taking the raw traffic count data that is collected, usually over a 24-hour period, and adjusting it by factors to account for daily and seasonal variations.
